Those were the words I lived by growing up, the words that protected me in an unsafe home. But words are only letters and eventually even they couldn’t keep his hands off me.

Hoping to leave behind the shattered life of my past, I find myself in a boring, small town, with an aunt I’ve never met and at a school I loathe.

But soon I learn, not everything in this world is as black and white as I’ve determined. Sometimes those we are so quick to judge often need a second, third or even fourth time to make a first impression.

And often, there are friendships and even love waiting just around the corner, if we are brave enough to take the first step.

Am I brave?

Or will I hide behind these tattered gloves of mine forever?

Willow always knew the worst facets of the human being, coming from a destroyed home with a careless mother, she closed herself in her shell, preferring to be the odd and quiet girl. After an extremely dramatic situation, she finds herself forced by her mother to move in with an aunt she did not even know existed.Now tell me what better place for Willow to be than in a town named Sugar Tree?
Because that's where she goes.

"The whole town reminded me of an old movie set."

Feeling lonely and helpless, the girl arrives in the new house suspicious of everything and everyone and not at all interested in interacting or letting people approach her .....

" Word of advice , Mittens. The less you try to be invisible, the less interested people will be in you,"

With no intention of interacting with the world and always stuck to the words that the mother spoke to her, totally immersed in the guilt of having disobeyed, she arrives in the city willing to just survive and does everything so that no one gets too close to her. Wearing only black and wide clothes and her inseparable tattered gloves as a reminder of how she can not trust people or let them get close.

I'm not a social butterfly.

It is in this scenario that Willow meets Sam and Allison, he who seems the rich and pampered boy and she, with the look of a popular girl ready to humiliate those around her.
But was Willow right in judgments?

"I didn't figure you were someone who made such quick judgments about others .... but then again, that's is the tricks thing about first impressions: they're usually wrong."

Gradually she discovers by allowing these young people to come near her and opening her heart to the new experiences that life puts before her. They begin together to savor the great and controversial phases of adolescence, their mood swings, passions, challenges and fears.I swear that in several moments I felt like i could enter in the book and putting them on my lap giving a lot of affection and not let anything bad happen ....Since nothing in life happens quietly, they needed every possible strength to experience everything whether at school, at Aunt Addy's house or at the best possible place in my opinion .... at the Page Turners bookstore.

Willow finds in this bookstore a world of new experiences and even without separating from hed red gloves, she longs to touch and experience all the emotions she could find on the shelves. She loved to discover new books, to feel each character in the skin and to dream.

Thing that every voracious reader loves to do ..... Does not it?Best place !This book is a real injection of courage and hope in the vein, full of symbolism and bringing some strong alerts in a gentle way. A lesson about with there is still a lot of love in the world and we should not let the darkness take over our heart.All this watered down to references such as The Little Mermaid, Captain America, Divergent, Lord of the Rings , Charllie and the Chocolate Factory.....

So good !With a flowing writing, the writer made me hope that Willow could find her place in the world and could overcome everything she had suffered in the past. A highlight for me throughout this journey of Willow was undoubtedly Aunt Addy, who even with her eccentricity, can help her see that each one builds her own future.The cover could not be more perfect to show all the pain of the protagonist and yet show how she remained with open hands ready to donate and receive all that good or bad things that would come.

So Brave !6/5 stars ....Recommended for teenagers and adults alike.Kisses, Myl
